Spring 2026, a great start to the year

After the relentlessly wet start to 2026, the latest days of sunshine have put a spring in our step as we reflect on what has been an incredibly positive start to the year where we’ve continued to make significant planning and design progress. Following the London Borough of Enfield’s approval of planning permission in September 2025, it has now been approved by the Greater London Authority (GLA) and the Grant of Planning Permission has been achieved.  This is the result of years of hard work by all involved and we are very grateful to Enfield Council and the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority for their support.

The project has also received the permit it needs from the Environment Agency, a critical step confirming that Surf London can manage and reuse certain materials on site in a safe and environmentally responsible way. This is another demonstration of the project’s commitment to sustainability at every stage.

The project is now completing its detailed design, tender and fundraising efforts, whilst working with the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority to finalise lease documentation.

The Surf London project has also been shortlisted for a 2026 Pineapple award in the Future Place Category. This category considers more than the construction itself, but considers long-term social, environmental and spatial value. It looks at how places evolve, serve communities, and respond to future needs. The landscape architecture master plan has been led by MOOWD, a landscape, urban design and engagement studio shaping regenerative environments, cities, and communities across the UK. The winners will be announced in March and we’ll let you know how we got on!

“We could not have wished for a more positive start to 2026. These milestones keep us on track to deliver a globally celebrated surf and active leisure destination in London in 2028. It is a great demonstration of how the project team continue to work incredibly collaboratively to maintain this momentum and we are very thankful for the support of everyone involved.” - Hazel Geary, CEO.
